Holidays.

This will be my best day ever for the holidays have come
I’ve got to mind my little sister, but I’ll dump her and just run
I’ll take her to the bus stop and give the driver all my cash
While I tell him to drive her to the end and then bring her back.

Oh darn it! Now she’s crying as the bus has pulled away
You can bet she’ll dob me in to Mum and I’ll be shut away
‘Time out’ will be inside my room and I’ll be bored to death
While I hear my poor Dad saying “You know you’re wasting your breath”.

I’ve heard my Mom tell God on me and I wonder what He thought
I’m always in trouble for not doing what I ought
I think I hear Him chuckle when He looks down on me
For I know Jesus also had a sister or three.

I Bought A BOAT !!

I bought a little boat and it’s trying to stay afloat
But there’s a hole in the blunt end (it’s not a boat of note!)
The salesman said it had a sail but it just sailed away
And the rudder fell off when we hit a little wave.

I still had an oar an hour ago or more
But it slipped through a hole I never saw before
So now I’ve got my foot inside that ever widening hole
I’m bobbing along the coast, I hope it knows its own way home.

I’m not worried though I don’t have a sail
If I’m lucky I can latch onto a passing whale
Whatever happens I won’t be down in the mouth
For the wind is blowing east, though the current’s flowing south.

Well, I don’t know what happened but I’ve water in my mouth
Though the wind is blowing east and the current’s flowing south
I would stand on the bridge and salute as Captains do
When their boat goes down, but my bridge has gone too!

Gurgle, gurgle!!

I Walked Out The Door.

I walked out the door the day that You called me
I heard Your gentle voice, yet I hardened my heart
Not wanting to change but with so many needs
That I should have been running right into Your arms.

I stood outside the door, I thought You couldn’t see me
The tears began to flow and I stifled my groans
I didn’t want to stay or return to that dark room
Where You had had Your say with “Child, please come Home”

That was just what my parents cried the day I was leaving
Leaving their care, for I wanted to roam
I was grown up, independent, resenting their caring
Indifferent to the pain I would leave in that home.

You followed me out of that room where You’d called me
I would not turn but You stayed close behind
I went on my way, my own way preferring
Not heeding Your presence because I was blind.

I don’t remember how long I lived without You Lord
Long enough to let sin beset all of my ways
But one day when fear and guilt was piled high as a mountain
I fell down on my knees and I cried out “Lord, please save”!

I felt a warm blanket of Love spread around me
My tears were burning as I knelt at Your feet
Then I rose to go home to the parents who’d raised me
And I saw them running right down the street.

Talk To Me.

Talk to me Dear Father as I go about my way
Even just a whisper throughout the day
Lest I am a rudderless wee small boat
Tossed on the seas of life trying to stay afloat.

Talk to me Dear Father when I am alone
I need to feel Your Presence inside my home
Quiet my frail spirit and fill me with hope
That anything You ask of me I’ll be able to cope.

Thank you for my blessings, I know they are on loan
The gifts from Your Spirit will be my own
While I am obedient and remain in Your will
These gifts are for Your glory as I worship with them still.

I Heard Your Call.

I heard Your call, “Come follow” Is that all?
Is it that simple, when I must give my all?
I can’t resist You or turn my face away.
‘Not I, but Christ’ is the only way.

I saw Your scars and the nails in Your hands
I saw the Father’s pain as You honoured all His plans
Nothing I offered could repay the price You paid
But now we can go Home with You, not held by the grave.

I saw the grave stone that was rolled away
You stepped out in triumph as Satan slinked away
Lord, I will stand with You wherever You go
It was just the way You looked at me; I couldn’t say ‘No’.

I saw the world and the sorrow in Your eyes
Lost and angry ones before a God they despised
Walking away from the blood that could cleanse
Blaming every circumstance; not making amends.

Will you heed the call, ‘Come, follow’, that is all?
Repentance and cleansing when you answer His call
A hope and a future Christ offers to you
If you seek after Him as I pray you will do.

Do We Deny Your Power?

Lord, do we deny Your power, because of unbelief?
Do we keep Your Sword from wielding so it remains inside its sheath?
Do we deny Your power because of lack of Faith?
What words of Yours this hour could change somebody’s fate.

Your Word is clear and forthright, it is always ‘Yea’ or ‘Nay’
It tells us all the things You’ll do if we will just obey
O give us simple hearts, Lord, to quote, “Our Father said”
And then, believing, act on it. Has God not raised the dead?

When we were dead in sin, Lord, You opened up our grave
You walked right to the Cross, Lord, because You came to save
We are our brother’s keeper and souls are won, not lost
By our believing prayer and Your death at such a cost.

The Lonely Road

I was wandering a lonely road and the light was fading fast
When darkness fell I was alone; I knew the light would never last
But the place that I was seeking had a light all of its own
I was on my way to Glory; the place that God calls Home.

You are my Light, my Comfort, and a Saviour, Lord to me
You are the only One that I really long to see
So long ago You died for me and I am travelling on
To the Glory land up yonder that my hope is set upon.

You gave Your all at Calvary; that day You set me free
From the ever tightening grip that sin had clinging around me
And now I’m free to worship You, to love You and adore
My God my mighty Saviour, as I learn to love You more.

My road’s no longer lonely for the Comforter is here
He’s walking right beside me and there‘s not a thing to fear
I can see the lights of Glory and its portals open wide
Now I have a brand new story that I’ll share once I’m inside.

Lord, I Have Come To You Again.

Lord I have come to You again today since I am all alone
And I want to say how much You mean to me
You know that I am working till the day You call me Home
But thank You, Lord, for dying for me.

No one could love me any more than You do, Dear Lord
No one could take my stubborn heart and set it free
You never will give up on me however hard it is
As You mould this grumpy soul to look like Thee.

So many times I feel I want to throw the towel in
So many times I slip and fall again
When I don’t see an improvement and I cannot stay afloat
I stop and wonder why You stay with me again.

So thank You Lord for loving me and holding me so tight
You have said that You will never let me go
If I make it up to Glory then I’ll know that You were right
And You’ll know that it is why I love You so.

All At Sea?

When I’m standing on this hill, Lord
The world looks fresh and new
The ocean’s multicoloured blue
The sky, a misty hue
The early morning sun has tried
To clear the mist away
But it needs the help of wind if it’s
To prove a bright clear day.

Small boats are bobbing out to sea
Their courage I admire
They look so small and frail out there
Is their Captain’s heart afire
With plans and compass, fishing nets
As he’s hoping for a catch?
But if a storm should brew up now
He would know he’d met his match.

That’s how we live our lives each day
Prepared, or so we think
For any trial or problem
Yet we are on the brink
Of sounding out an unknown depth
Of running into storms
That’s when we cry out to our God
And we feel so forlorn

Look! He’s walking on the water
He has the storm in hand!
It’s when we fail to look to Him
We lose sight of the land
He is our one True Compass
Our Shelter in a storm
Our Saviour Friend and Helper
No need to feel forlorn.

It’s Me Again.

Are You there, Lord? Are You, really? It is me again, you see
I’ve had a gray dull day today and with You I need to be
My joy slipped down the drain hole; my hope walked out the door
So many things went wrong, Lord; Felt like a dozen or more.

My laughter died from lack of fun, my optimism too
Now all I want is to be near and sit right down with You
If You told me a joke, Lord, I don’t think I could laugh
But I still want to hear what You think is my right path.

I want to step into the sunshine and fly through the skies
I want to hold a dear sweet baby if I see tears in their eyes
I’d like to tuck a child in bed who once had homeless been
I want to stroke someone with fevered brow, and make them well again.

I want to comfort those that grieve and wipe their tears away
Then I would tell them to look up, for their sun will shine one day.
I’d tell them to hold out a hand to another grieving soul
To sing praises to their Saviour, for He will make them whole.

And then when all is said and done I’d raise my arms to You
And thank You for my Salvation and the love that’s always true
I’d praise You for Creation and the life You gave to me
As I promise to be always true, just like You are, you see.

I’ll Never Tire.

I’ll never tire of walking here
Or sitting on a bench
I watch the ocean and the waves
They bolster up my strength

The time I spend in worship
And thanking You for life
Is a time my soul is blessed enough
To go back to my life.

If I’ve had an awful morning
You know I’d cry for You
There’s no one else that I would trust
To show me what to do.

All my trials come in bundles
Are they cheaper by the score?
Sometimes I think that one more thing
Would knock me to the floor.

It’s only when Your Peace comes down
And You wrap me in Your arms
That my troubles seem smaller
And I am not alarmed.

So now my fighting muscles
Have had some exercise
I will leave the restless ocean
For You are at my side.

The Restless Sea.

Oh how I love the restless sea
It reminds me of Your love for me
Those surging waves like Your strong arms
Flow over me; keep me from harm.

The bobbing waves far out to sea
Remind me that You searched for me
I knew all along if I should fall
Those waves would lift me over all.

Though trials and troubles I might face
I’m in Your heart through all Your Grace
No matter where I find myself
Your tide of love will be my help.

You are not silent, cold, or still
Your will is done through all life’s ill
I feel Your strength on every wave
Your endless love; Your power to save

It carries me from east to west
While I am resting on Your breast
When I have doubts I’m in Your will
You tell the ocean ‘Peace; be still’.

Then quiet waters whisper ‘Peace’
The restless waves their motions cease
You simply sweep me off my feet
In You I know my life’s complete.

Lingering Memories.

When memories stir and we dream of the past
The sorrow that lingers; love that never did last
The hot tears we shed; ‘if only!’ we sigh
The pain buried deep, while time slowly goes by.

One day is a lifetime with a thousand to come
Each one like the last and still more to run
The sky’s blue has faded; the sunlight is weak
Summer’s heat has been raided by the tears we weep.

Will the sun rise tomorrow or will it stay hid
In a blanket of sorrow and wait till it’s bid
To shine forth once more as our hope is restored
By the love of the Father and our tender Lord?

At last my book (one copy) arrived. It is exciting to get my hands on it after three years of writing the poems that have gone into it.

My wish is that readers will be blessed and encouraged to pour out their love to God as He poured out the life of His Son Jesus Christ for us.

Walk On The Chaos

Walk on the chaos of my life
No need to calm the waves
You, Lord, have charge of pain and strife
I know that Jesus saves.

No plan of Yours is a mistake
My obedience is the key
To the success or length of stress
Come, Lord, take charge of me.

And when the Harbour comes in sight
Loved ones have lined the shore
I’ll hear You whisper “Well done, my child
Come Home, and roam no more.”

Seventy People.

Seventy people went down to Egypt
Seventy in the hands of the Lord
There they multiplied, prospered and lingered
Until God’s purpose had won over all.

Do you fear the Kings of your Egypt?
Do you despair of becoming strong?
God has promised a hope and a future
You will succeed if to Him you belong.

Seventy persons went down to Egypt
Seventy in the hands of the Lord
Living and learning, prospering, working
Mightily blessed in the hands of the Lord.

How many souls came out from Egypt?
How many souls in the hands of the Lord?
Hundreds of thousands came out in triumph
Mightily blessed in the hands of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 10.)

Lord, Your Spirit Reigns.

Lord, Your Spirit reigns within; You are my Rock, my Tower, my Light
No trial or trauma can remove Your presence, day or night.
Why do I fret and worry so when You are God of all?
Your purposes will be worked out however dark this pall.

Behind the clouds, beyond the storm the sun is shining still
So hear my song dear God of Love for I will love You still.
Your faithfulness a shining light that pierces all the gloom
Your Word is sure and can’t be moved, You are here inside my room.

How blessed we are that You are here and with us every day
Nothing can ever change Your love, You’ll never walk away.
But if we wander from Your side Your sorrow matches ours
We move with sin, neglect, or pride, lost moments become lost hours.

You gave Your life and still pour out a love as red as blood
Each drop is wrung out from Your Heart, You wish us only good.
So why is it so hard to trust, so hard to rest in You?
Again our pride comes into play we think that we should do

This thing, or that, we deem Your will; decisions, unwise, are made
Not resting but restlessness the line on which our life is laid.
So help us Lord to look to You for every breath and step
To take instructions from Your Word then trust Your guidance yet.

Walking Through Life.

Will you walk with me, beloved, through the springtime of our life
While our love is young and everything is green?
Will you hold my hand and vow with me that there will be no strife
While we look around at this glorious scene?.

Will you walk with me, beloved, through the summer of our life
When new hopes and plans for prosperity lie ahead
Our quiver full, as parents proud, of children fit and free
While we teach them where to look for Daily Bread.

Will you walk with me, beloved, through the autumn of our life
Now the children all have flown out from the nest
Our hopes and plans are all forgotten, and we are slowing down
Will you walk beside me even then?

Will you walk with me, beloved, through the winter of our life
When walking may be difficult at best
Just take my hand and we will walk down memory's lane instead
And watch our grandchildren play as we just rest.

If you should go to Glory first please look on me sometimes
I'll be the one that's walking home alone you see
But don't be sad for me because I'll be coming to Glory soon
And I'll be the young and pretty wife I used to be.

Not Just A Mom.

The call of duties every day is not the stuff of dreams
But walking on before the Lord is everything it seems
We take one faithful step at a time as we feel led to do
Or continue on our daily climb doing what we know You’d do.

The daily chores of family life as a loving, giving soul
Are the silken fabrics that surround those we know as our own
In turn, they will, when growth permits live out the same way too
Your way of care and gentleness, which they have learned from you.

So don’t despair that thrills may not be a frequent part of life
Just walk on with God and share His love; it’s a healing balm for strife
Walk on, don’t faint, your Lord is near beside you all the way
You’ll find the love you pour out now will return to you some day.

A Smile.

A smile always starts in the eyes of a child
It slips down their face till their lips open wide
If they chuckle the smile floats away on the breeze
And it lands on the face of someone passing, with ease.

That smile lingers on till they pass someone too
Perhaps it was you and you were feeling so blue
But now it has landed your heart felt it first
It was just as if you were dying of thirst.

For your lips have just parted as the smile slipped on down
You looked up to Heaven and saw a bright crown
The angels had made it to fit that little child
As a thank you for sharing their wonderful smile.

I Heard The Music Of Heaven.

A new baby is born
Eyes still closed, no clothing worn
But a cry rends the air around the bed
My eyes are filled with tears
Is he already sensing fear?
Or have I just heard the music of Heaven?

Morning dawned in pouring rain
Bad weather here once again
I must drive carefully to avoid a prang
As I climbed into my car
I could see the morning star
I heard the music of Heaven; an angel sang.

Children coming home from school
Running; breaking all the rules
Tossed their books and their boots on my clean floor
Then straight to the fridge; grabbed the milk
And spilled their drink
I heard the music of Heaven once more.

God is everywhere we are
In the humdrum; on a star
If we listen we’ll hear the Angels sing
So no matter where you go
He is with you all ,you know
You’ll hear the music of Heaven ring.

Faithful

Faithful to me; Faithful to me
There on the Cross You were faithful to me
You took all my sinfulness and set me free
I worship you Saviour, You’re so faithful to me.

Guiding me: You are guiding me
In my freedom You are leading and guiding me
No step would I take without holding Your hand
Saviour You are leading me through this great land.

Onward to Home; Onward to Home
Lord You will take me so I no longer roam
Draw me much closer Lord, I long to be
Right at Your side while You’re still leading me.

No more regrets; No more regrets
All that You send me I know is the best
Teaching and training me; letting me try
The ways that I praise You and the ways that You guide.

Only with You; Only with You
One day I’ll reach Heaven and be only with You
No one will take me right out of Your hand
As You walk with me Saviour to the glory You planned.

You Can Walk Across My Grave.

You can walk across my grave my friend for I will not be there
I have broken through my chrysalis, now I don’t have a care
There’s no pain and no more loneliness; no cold dirt over me
I’m walking down the roads of Heaven, enjoying all I see.

No need to cry beside my grave my friend, for I will not be there
I’m sitting in the sunshine of my Lord without a care
If I have time I will be looking for those I used to know
But Mum and Dad will be the first for I went them both to know.

That I’ve broken free of earthly cares since Jesus is my Lord
He died for me at Calvary and carried me aboard
The glory train to Heaven, so I want you all to know
That I’m basking in the light of God and I’m glad He loved me so.

Now it is so important that you hear what I say
For I want to see you all up here one grand and glorious day
There is such a crowd of witnesses cheering from above
With the Spirit, God and Jesus watching over you with love.

So please remember that although I’ve gone, I’ve not gone very far
For I will always love you, yes, you know who you are
You were always in my heart and my heart is still in you
So get ready for Heaven, it’s the best thing you could do.

The Sun Will Shine Through.

The sun will shine through tomorrow
The Lord God knows all your pain
He dealt with all that at Calvary
His anguish is your gain.

He weeps when you weep with sorrow
He holds you close to His heart
He whispers ‘There’ll be sunshine tomorrow
Just hold on friend and don’t you lose heart.’

You can do this for one day longer
If you say that on every morn
Then day after day you’ll grow stronger
A stalwart; let no one pour scorn.

No one should look down on My children
They were worth every drop of my blood
Whatever you suffer right now, friend
It will serve to do someone else good.

Your trials and sorrows are testings
To establish your testimony
You’ll come through them and shine like silver
A credit to both you and Me.

Every one of my children is different
For I made people, not clones
So don’t feel that you should follow the sheep
It’s the Shepherd that shows the way Home.

Amen.

Polution

Will tomorrow ever come? Will it be different
From all the tomorrows that I’ve had so far?
All the hopes and dreams I’ve sought to have answered
Seem to have moved even further than a star.

Shall I forget what might have been and see reality
That there’s nothing much of anything for me?
I’m a not a shooting star but just a shadow
A reflection of what someone else might see.

I sit here; I’m a pond amongst the refuse
That those visiting humans left for me.
They came, they saw, and then they dropped their rubbish
As if it was a gift they left for me.

Oh yes, they stopped, and sat, and looked at their reflection
In my water, not as clear as it used to be
I wonder what they saw. They didn’t like it
For they tossed all their rubbish into me.

If I were clean I could reflect God’s Creation
As the moon and stars shine down upon me
But my image is marred, I’m ugly and scarred
Can anyone find beauty now in me?

I dreamed that one day someone came to clean me
That they dragged all this rubbish away
But they only did it once and then another’s response
Was to toss more bags of garbage my way.

Please Don’t Disappear.

Please don’t disappear Lord
I need You here with me
Because You are a Spirit
How can I see?

Please stay close to my side, Lord
Without You I’m afraid
My future’s in Your hands, Lord
Please stay, oh please stay.

Now I read Your Word, Lord
You said You’d never leave
My doubts were built on lies,
For the enemy deceived .

I will walk with You Lord
For ever and a day
Devoted just to You Lord
Now I know You will stay.

Strength For Today

Sweep me up in warmth and comfort
Help me carry daily care
Dry the tears I shed too often
When I wake and no one’s there.

Give me work; I would be useful
Though some tasks I cannot do
Brain, not body, is in order
Show me Lord, I would serve You.

How to help the poor and homeless
And protect a child with care
Feed the hungry, help the dying
All this I’d do if You declare.

Paying bills is no distraction
Pension not enough to share
So what to do and how to do it
You alone know that I care.

Maybe there’ll be no tomorrow
Maybe today will be my last
Strength from You I need to borrow
Just for today; That’s all I ask.

It Is Later Than You Think.

While there is time, lift some souls to Jesus
While there is time, remember one in prayer
While there is time kneel in full surrender
And find the time to show someone you care.

While there is time pray for the world that’s dying
Tomorrow may not leave Eternity
Today may be the last one of your journey
Tomorrow I may call you home to Me.

While there’s time heal a sorrow or a friendship
While there is time remember those who cared
And helped you on your own way to Glory
They found the time to show love that they shared.

While there is time please keep on praying
For ones who are alone or full of pain
Pray for those you know and those you don’t, I’m saying
There may be someone who is homeless in the rain.

It’s later than you think, there’s not much time.

Keep Your Eyes On Us, Father.

Keep Your eyes on us Father
Don’t let us get out of sight
So many potholes are on this road
So few things going right.

We want to be always near You
So near we can hear You breathe
Your have the words of Life, Lord
The devil is here to deceive.

Keep Your heart with us, Father
We know we are loved by You
We really do want to please You
And do everything You would do.

Keep Your Spirit within us Lord
We need that comfort and strength
Sometimes the dailyness of our chores
Add to a hard day’s length.

We’ll keep our eyes on You, Father
We don’t want You out of our sight
You are our Leader and Guide, Lord
We know everything will be alright.

Just In Case.

Just in case you call Me I’ll be ready
Just in case You need Me, I’ll be there
One thing you need to know wherever you may go
My hand is on your life and I’m right there.

Just in case you feel no satisfaction
With the path of life You’re walking down today
Remember you’re My child and I am still your Guide
You will reach the goal I’ve set for you this way.

Just in case your joy is disappearing
Look up and see that I am cheering you on
My joy is found in you and that’s what you should do
Be joyful for you and I are one.

---------------------------------------------------

Well, just in case You call me I’ll be ready, Lord
Just in case You need me I’ll be there
One thing that I do know, wherever I may go
You are leading me and closer than a prayer.

I’ll remember I’m Your child and You are with me
You will guide me down the path that I should go
Then when I reach the end, all my life You’ve been my friend
I’ll be ready just in case You call me Home.

What Is Heaven Like?

The sky is blue and cloudless
As if God opened His front door
I’d love to peep into Heaven
For five minutes or maybe more.

Angels may be rushing round
On errands where there’s need
Old ladies knitting sweaters
Or stuff they never need.

Young people playing baseball
But not even keeping score
I’d like to spend a day there
Or two or maybe more.

I’m sure it would be interesting
And busy as can be
Would there be a spare Angel
Who could take care of me?

This place is full of strangers
Where is my Granny? Where is Pop?
Why don’t they come to see me?
They must know that I can’t stop?

The sun is setting and when it’s dark
I must be home for tea
Do they have tea in Heaven
Do you think they’d invite me?

Grandad’s Birthday.

Will Grandad get a cake in Heaven
Now that his birthday’s here?
Does that mean he’s getting older
Even though he is not here?

Dad says he’ll live for ever
Think how old he will be
When Jesus beams me up to Heaven
Will he still play with me?

Do The Days Drag?

Do the days drag when you are alone?
Begin each day down at the throne
Seek out another lonely soul
Many are broken and would be made whole.

Feeling such pain, and despondency?
Thinking again, why me? Why me?
Trying to remember what joy felt like?
Even your smile has gone on strike.

Hands up all those who feel the same?
Wanting to end this earthly game?
Satan’s the one who steals your joy
Look up to God He’s yours to enjoy.

So many things to ponder upon
Flowers and babies, ducks in a pond
Blue sky and sunshine, breezes and such
Many more things hold the Saviour’s touch.

Pray for people you have never met
The broken, the lonely, and even your pet
The Father will smile if you walk that last mile
He misses nothing and His love is your smile.

I Will Press On.

What happened yesterday is gone
Whatever lost, whatever won
No ponderings can change that fact
Today is here and I must act.

I will press on.

I have no righteousness of my own
Lord I press upwards to Your Home
Lay hold of me, my Saviour God
For I would know the path You trod.

I will press on.

Lord help me die unto myself
And be conformed unto Your death
I would know Your resurrection power
I cling to You from hour to hour.

While pressing on.

I Sensed That You Smiled.

I sensed that You smiled when I offered a kind word
To someone whom I had thought an enemy
I was blessed with their smile and a touch of gratitude
Now there’s a platform for a soul to reach me.

A kind word is a stepping stone that runs on a smile
The fuel is as free as it can be
We don’t know the sorrows and problems people bear
Too much time is spent with “What about me?”.

Lord, You think about us even when we flap and fuss
And we knock your Peace to pieces once again
We need a moment of quiet to still the awful riot
That takes over when the enemy takes the reins.

So let’s slow down or we’ll never win that crown
That is granted to the overcoming soul
God has offered His Peace and His power will never cease
Jesus died to make us free and make us whole.

You Surprise Us.

There is no question that You surprise us
For our ways are not Your own
We make our plans yet You will guide us
Into paths seen from Your throne.

Just day by day as You have called us
Step by step when You say “Go”
We’ll never fear though the future’s hidden
The next step all we need to know.

No open doors? No sense of leading?
Then we will wait until You call
Waiting and trusting although You tarry
Your timing perfect, Your will is all.

There is no question that you, Lord, love us
You show it in so many ways
In patience, mercy, loving-kindness
In every way, through all our days.

O Majesty of Majesties

O Majesty of Majesties, Creator of the world
It is my joy to worship You as Lord of my little world
I’m just a tiny speck in this amazing, beautiful place
You made for our enjoyment, this lowly human race.

I sometimes walk along the road, my gaze fixed on the ground
But when I stop to look around my heart stirs at the sound
Of birds and bees and insects, and children’s clear- voiced calls
And babes whose wide eyed wonder will daily bless us all.

They never question parents love, or know about their God
Who planned their lives so long ago before the earth Christ trod
So, Lord, I’m here to worship and send my love to You
To thank You for my trials and my faith and hope renew.

The Twilight Zone.

There is a twilight zone between darkness and light
Is it possible to stand in that place?
For God is the Light and Satan is the dark
We must choose the only right place

If we’re in the twilight zone we’d have to be lukewarm
About salvation, and the life God would have us live
We must choose life and not let it slip away
Though Satan beckons from the darkness where he lives.

If we will choose life and we are walking in the light
The light of God will shine upon our way
It’s in the darkness of despair you’ll find no one there who cares
So choose life, choose light, choose Him today.

Grandad, Do Angels Cry?

When I’m feeling down and lonely
And there’s no one calling by
Is it then that the Angels cry?
If I ponder on my troubles
And heave sigh after sigh
Is it then that the Angels cry?

No, but, when a child is being abused
And there’s no one on their side
It is then that the Angels cry!
When some poor old soul is dying
And there’s no one there beside
It is then that the Angels cry!

When someone else is down and lonely
And you don’t bother calling by
It is then that the angels cry
Wherever there is cruelty
And justice isn’t nigh
It is then that the Angels cry.

If you want to dry the Angels’ tears
Then child please hear me
Wherever you see wrong and put it right
If you can help another person
And change their sigh for a smile
Then the Angels no longer cry.

The Ocean.

I’m an old lady of the ocean or so it seems to me
I cannot swim, or sail a boat, but the ocean’s inside me
No one tried to drown me though some may wish they could
But if I can’t see the ocean I’d turn into driftwood.

I don’t know why the ocean should mean so much to me
But I know that when I die I want the sea beside me
The pounding waves, the stiff sea breeze are heaven to me, you know
And if Jesus should tarry, that’s where I’d like to go.

God’s Creation is astounding; He made both great and small
But for me it is the ocean: I sense His power over all
I could stand and gaze for ever on its beauty; I’m in awe
Of God, my Creator, as the waves roll evermore.

A Friend

I was sitting on a wooden bench and looking out to sea
When a shadow passed across my face as someone sat by me
It was a friend I recognised; someone so dear to me
We hugged; sat down; and once again, were gazing out to sea.

The sky then seemed more interesting, the waves were higher too
That happens when someone else is there to talk to you
Our meetings are not frequent for we each have our own lives
So if we chance to meet it is a pleasant surprise.

You see we’re joined in fellowship under the Hand of God
Perhaps we’re even soul mates for we’re like peas in a pod
We can sit together quietly and not express our thoughts
At other times we chat about people, God, or sports.

When it’s time for a parting we will just walk away
And wave goodbye and say we’ll meet again another day
Friendship doesn’t fade with meeting infrequently
We will remember the day we sat together by the sea.

Abandoned to You.

Abandoned to You, Lord, that’s what I want to be
I am tired of trying to stand on my own two feet, You see
I just want to throw myself at Your feet my Lord
Is that abandonment? Is it really, Lord?

Not I but Christ, Oh Lord that is my aim
Nothing I do seems to honour Your Name
Unless You do it for me and sweep me off my feet
I’m abandoning me, for it’s You I want to meet.

I need to be in ‘freefall’ as I’m abandoned to You
I throw myself into Your arms; the best thing I can do
You are my Master, my leader and my Friend
Unquestioning obedience until my life shall end.

My heart will know Your Peace when I’m abandoned to You
No fretting, no questioning; the best thing I could do
Waiting is not so hard when I am close to You
Fully abandoned, there’s no more ‘me’ just ‘You’.

God Is Real.

Lord, it’s good to know that I’m with You
And You are here with me
I’m sitting on a wooden bench
Just gazing out to sea.
I’m proud to say I’ve climbed the hill
Named after Mutton birds
They live and nest here at their will
Though I haven’t seen one bird.

The sun is shining through the clouds
But I don’t think it will rain
If that should happen I’ll have to race
Across this hill again.
I can take a spot of rain
Or a downpour or two
It would be fun to try and find
Somewhere to dry off too.

The sea’s not rough, but the waves can roar
As they pound on the rocks below
It reminds me of Your protection
When my storms begin to blow.
The Peace You leave within my heart
I’ll carry all the day
My troubles are only noise and froth
Just like these waves, today.

I gaze on the horizon
It looks so quiet and still
If that’s the view You have, my Lord
Then why aren’t I quiet and still?
My life is in Your gentle care
No turmoil I should feel
Just resting in my Father’s love
What joy to know You’re real.

Will Heaven Wait?

Will Heaven wait till I’m perfect?
What happens if that cannot be?
When I’m forgiven I’m perfect
For a moment, till You convict me

Of something I said that I shouldn’t
Or didn’t do what I should.
I am such a disappointment
Why is it I just can’t be good?

Now I realise that I’m far from perfect
And what a hard job that You have
To get me ready for Heaven
When I keep turning good into bad.

But wait! There is more to this story
For Your Word says when You look at me
You see me through Christ’s own Glory
And the Cross where He died for me.

I am washed in the blood of my Saviour
And so I look perfect to You
Conviction and trials will make me
A much better image of You.

Decisions?

I must make decisions wisely
But Lord, I am not sure
Which choice is best when I would rest
In Your choice more and more

So, Father do please guide me
And engineer the way
That I should walk to please You
And only go Your way.

Then, Lord, I’ll stand and praise You
And lift my heart in prayer
That You have helped me once again
And You are always there.

The torment of decisions
When I strive to know Your will
Is only my own lack of Faith
For You’re my Father still.

So thank You Lord for guidance
As You whisper, ‘This is the way
Walk in it dear child of Mine
I’m with you every day.

‘My back is never turned to you
Ears open to your cry
So keep your eyes and heart on Me
My help I’ll not deny.’

Love Never Fails.

Love never fails I’m told, yet it will sometimes change
God alone the only One Whose love always prevails.
Human love grows hot then cold as interest falls away
Hearts are bruised and damaged and love dies one sad dark day.

When you are told, “I’ll always love you”; that will warm your heart
But oh, the cold that grips you when that one desires to part
You see true love’s unselfish, but the selfish person finds
It is easy to say goodbye as soon as they have changed their mind.

It’s only God can teach us how to truly love
For Jesus died at Calvary the epitome of true love
No sacrifice was too much for He gave up His all
He loved us though we didn’t care about Him at all.

So Lord, please help us love folk just the way you do
To be faithful and constant whatever they may do
Love is always kind and leaves the judging to God
Jealousy comes straight from Hell whenever satan gets the nod.

So let’s remember love is kind and longsuffering
Love is never jealous, or takes account of anything
Love rejoices in the truth, love never fails
The love of God never failed when Jesus took the nails.

Say Hello To Sunshine.

Say hello to sunshine
The rain has gone at last
It’s left behind some diamonds
Sparkling in the grass.

Clouds may come tomorrow
But you can be prepared
So soak up the sunshine
And let your voice be heard.

Say hello to sunshine
Let sorrows fade away
Jesus suffered sorrows too
For many a day.

Let His love warm up your heart
And sparkle through your eyes
Send a stranger sunshine
As a loving surprise.

Someone’s head is lowered
They do not see the sun
Burdened and troubled folk
May give up one by one.

They may fall away but
You can lift them up
Hold out a helping hand
That’s warm with God’s love.

Almost Home.

Don’t cry for me, I’m almost Home
How long I’ve waited for this to come
My memory short, the days too long
But I remember I’m almost Home.

Do you call sometimes? I don’t recall
I know your faces and I love you all
You are the ones I hold so dear
Don’t cry for me, my Lord is here.

When you were babies, just yesterday
I watched you grow; I watched you play
I dreamed such dreams of future days
When I would watch you kneel to pray.

Now you’re all grown, so are your babes
My memories now will fill my days
Love one another till your time comes
Don’t cry for me, I’m almost Home.

Reduce The Size Of Your Army

Reduce the size of your army
In your own strength you will not avail
It is God Who fights the battle
His power and His strength will prevail.

So step up beside Him in armour
Holding the shield of Faith
His timing is what is important
Though He may ask you to wait.

He knows that waiting’s not easy
When the battle rages around
But He will move at the right time
Whenever troubles abound.

Be strong, be brave and courageous
God will not let you down
Yield to His perfect judgement
Then the turmoil will cease all around.

His Peace will shelter and shield you
He holds you safe in His arms
Nothing can tear you from His care
And nothing will do you harm.

You are His precious disciple
Growing more like Him each day
One day we’ll see Him returning
That one day may be today.

If I Could.

If I could, I’d paint the scenes folk could step into
I’d write words of beauty to show Your majesty
Tell stories of the Boy Who grew to manhood
Just to die for all of us at Calvary.

I want to show the world a God Who loves them
I need the words to tell how much You care
I want to see so many souls grow hungry
For a God Who always loves and cares.

I’d show a God Who holds the stars and planets
But Who will stoop to lift a helpless babe
A God Who puts His arms around the dying
And Who rolled away the stone from His Son’s grave.

My heart is full of wordless emotions
I cannot find the words to tell you how I feel
If I lived to be more than a hundred
I would still want to say ‘My God is Real’!

What Can I Do For You Lord?

What can I do for You Lord?
I’m asking for nothing today
I wake every day and I greet You
With all my requests for the day.

I pray please bless this one, and that one
Take care of my family and friends
Would You please stop the rain; or send it again
My list of requests never ends.

So from now I will change things around, Lord
First thing I will ask about You
Then give You a list of my Thank You’s
Instead of a list You could do.

First thing every morning You’re with me
And I know that You never left
You are loving me right into Glory
Am I there yet? It’s my last request.

End Of An Era.

It’s the end of an era and I’m tidying up my life
Closing down my websites and withdrawing from that life
I became too dependant and attached to certain things
Hanging out for messages at dawn (that sort of thing).

Yes, I had special times with God at the start of every day
Then I would go to look for mail to help me to pray
Hearing of the needs of those who took the time to write
Yearning to be with them and make everything alright.

I live like a hermit and don’t like to leave my home
Yet wish I could go miles away and ceaselessly roam
I have no commitments except to take my pills
I don’t know if they do me good; they’re no cure for my life’s ills.

I don’t feel needed or wanted yet I know that is not true
Just wait until you are old; it will happen to you
My body’s giving up on me, my brain will follow suit
If only God would take me Home you’d not hear me dispute.

So I’m sorting and packing the things that matter most
Moving to God’s waiting room, yet watching for the post
Maybe there will be some mail that changes my day
There’s nothing in my emails to cheer me anyway.

Lord Help Me Stand Alone.

Lord help me stand alone
I need no-one but You
I look round on an empty plain
And don’t know what to do.

Lord help me stand alone
Awaiting still Your will
Not sure what path will take me Home
Which would be good or ill?

Lord help me stand alone
Not need another’s hand
But just with You and just us two
We’ll walk on hand in hand.

Lord I don’t stand alone
That never has been so
For You are with me all the time
And know just where to go.

Now I can look around
At this once empty plain
And see Your blessings so abound
In sunshine or in rain.

In The Name Of The Father.

In the name of the Father I come to You, Lord
You opened the way up for me
On the cross at Calvary that black Easter day
You died there to set me free.

Now Heaven’s doors opened and I can come in
To be with You for ever and a day
What joy just to worship my Lord and my God
Jesus is the Truth and the Way.

And not just this only, my heart fills with joy
That I’ll meet all my loved ones again
With folk that I’ve heard of but have never seen
Yet I will know them and praise You with them.

In the name of the Father; in the name of the Son
And the Holy Ghost three in one
Almighty, victorious, yet gracious and kind
I await Your call now to come.

I Long To See You

Oh, how I long to see You,
Every single day
To know that somewhere, somehow,
You will pass along my way.

To know that I will never see
The look of grief and pain
That now I feel aware of
When I have slipped again.

It doesn’t seem important
If I’ve a mansion or a shack
As long as I am near You and
Can touch you and be touched back.

For all my life You’ve loved me
And cared and grieved for me
When I’ve been cold or selfish
Your tears I’d never see.

For when I’m up in Heaven,
Immortal, fully pure
I’ll never grieve You, Jesus,
Just worship and adore.

Would You Think I Was Weird?

Would you think that I was weird if I said I want to write?
But I don’t know what to write about today?
It’s been a funny sort of day with several salesmen on the phone
Wanting me to sign their contracts right away.

Have you ever had the wobbles when it came to putting down
Your name, address and details for some unknown
You try to remember what you said when on the phone
And hope they don’t intend to repossess your home?

First came car Insurance, well, I know that it is due
So I googled for quotes as I was told
But then when I completed the lengthy questionnaires
Some said No, they thought I was too old.

Well, that was alright for some did not object
To a woman only eighty three this year
But when they asked me what I’d done a few years back in time
I could only say what I had done this year.

It’s hard enough to remember what I have had for lunch
Or what I may have done the day before
But to ask me if and when my car’s had a little scratch
It’s had seven years of scratches, maybe more!

Well, as you may expect car insurance has been shelved
I’ll have to ponder that quite a lot more
So now the energy supplier has telephoned to say
That they’ve been sold by the Government; but wait, there’s more.

Now, though a bit of them is Asian and a bit is still Australian
They will still sell electricity from their grids
A contract is awaiting but, please, no hesitating
Their competition is on their heels with better bids.

Now I don’t want to mention a new phone was my intention
But the word ‘Contract’ was the first thing that I heard
When the phone company rang to read out their conditions
Now cars and phones and lights get on my nerves.

I’m Not A Social Butterfly.

I am not a social butterfly; I wish that I could be
But really, I am a recluse and hiding pleases me
I write, and read, and sleep a lot, morning, noon and night
The thought of meeting someone will give me quite a fright.

I only do the shopping if I run out of milk and
Make trips to the doctor, and that sort of ilk
I will work in the garden and no-one sees me
But when the neighbours are too noisy I run inside with me.

I sit at the computer most of the day
And I’m sad when messages don’t come my way.
But they are mostly offers; buy this; join this; donate
So then I turn to writing for that other stuff I hate.

You see they want a part of me and what I have to spend
And when you’re on a Pension your funds will quickly end
I suspect those that want my cash can run a nice new car
Or dine in a restaurant I see from afar.

Do you think I’m growing bitter from life experience?
I’d give you my last penny, if you wouldn’t take offence
In my heart I am a giver and if you had a need
I would solve it somehow and answer with speed.

A Recluse.

Are You Lonely?

When the days are empty and friends forget to write
Do you then feel lonely and resent the pain that bites
Into your senses and deep into your heart
You wish you didn’t need those folk to fill your empty heart?

Well you don’t need anyone; only the One
Who is your loving Saviour and God’s only Son
He left you his Spirit to fill that empty heart
He said He’d never leave you, so friend, take heart.

When you’re walking with the Lord you are not alone
His Spirit sends up messages right to the Heavenly Throne
You belong to the Father, you’re redeemed by the Son
Guided by the Spirit so you have the Three in One.

Blessed by the Trinity; washed in the blood
Jesus our Saviour did all that was good
So share out that great love the Father gave to you
Many lonely folk around you need that too.

A Moonlit Night.

In the quiet of a moonlit night I watch the clouds roll by
The world is sheltered under a velvet hood
The colours of the flowers change when day is turned to night
And I understand why God said, “It is good.”

Oh the beauty of Creation; Oh the wonder of God’s touch
The millions of strange creatures that He made
But most of all the wonder of the Saviour’s special love
When for the people of the earth His Life He gave.

Then we shall praise Him for His sacrifice we’ll thank Him for this world
And for all the wondrous gifts He does bestow
For His constant loving Presence wherever we may roam
Oh Creator, Father, God, we love You so.

So at the end of a moonlit night I see a dawning day
We know that the sun will soon arise
The Son of God the Father will return again one day
We will see Him appear up in the skies.

AND THERE WILL BE NO MORE NIGHT.

Could It Be?

Could it be that my sins have been forgiven?
Could it be that now I’m Heaven bound?
Could it really happen that You love me
So much that You gave up the Holy ground?

You gave up all of Your glory
When You left Your Father’s Home above
You lived and died on earth to save us
You won Salvation by the shedding of Your blood.

You took our sin into Your own body
You served the punishment that we all deserved
Your Father turned away He could not look at You
Your Mother wept for Your death was not deserved.

And now it’s Easter we remember Calvary
We look again at the cross on which You died
We kneel at Your feet to give You glory
Our Lord and our God was crucified.

He is risen! He is risen! That’s the cry now
Our Lord reigns on His throne from above
He will return soon in His glory
To call the ones He bought with His blood.

Could it be that you are not ready?
Could it be that your sins aren’t washed away?
Could it be too late to come to Jesus?
Not if you were to make a move today.

Please make a move today.

Just Thinking.

Just sitting, and thinking, then thinking again
About something or nothing at all.
Watching the birds as they fly round about
Then I’m looking at plants tall and small.

Watching the clouds as they drift on by
Wonder if they’ll ever be still?
Or, if they stood still would they tumble as rain
Or vanish just over some hill?

When You created the earth did You sit
And ponder how good it all looked
Or were You in sorrow because You knew then
What a mess we would make of that look.

When You come back to earth to take us all home
Will the earth be restored once again?
Or will it just lay there a smouldering wreck
To remind us that we hurt You again?

I’d be proud if You would send me to earth
To help restore it one day;
To plant out the garden that once was Your joy
Where You walked in the cool of the day.

And if You should call me, if You walk there again
I never, no never, would hide
I’d come out so gladly to hear Your dear Voice
Running till I reached Your side.

Regret Is A Cancer.

Can You use me, precious Lord?
Can Your Spirit flow
Right through me as a vessel, Lord
To everyone I know?

Does my life reflect Your love?
In patient, gentle care?
Or do I cause someone to turn
Away, because I’m there?

It’s not enough to do no harm
I yearn to do some good
Do I grieve Your Holy Spirit when
I don’t do the good I should?

I want to be Your servant, Lord
Both a servant and a friend
A vessel clean and always pure
Until my life shall end.

Regret is such a cancer Lord
That eats away at me
I cannot change the wrongs I’ve done
Though You’ve forgiven me.

My past Your Grace has blotted out
My future held by You
I’ll step into Your sunlight
That’s all that I can do.

And in Your sweet enduring love
My heart will rest assured
That You will guide my every step
As long as life endures.

Transfusion.

I had a joy transfusion
Today, while I was out
I was sitting at the doctor’s
But I didn’t sing or shout.
I felt the warmth of love and joy
Trickle through my veins
It ran right round behind my eyes
I sat there in a haze.

I felt Your soft warm hug Lord
As I waited quietly
In awe of my precious Saviour
Who is so good to me.
It’s wonderful to know You’re near
Around and yet inside me
And know that I am not alone
Wherever I might be.

Sometimes You are very quiet
And so, then I should be
For I might miss Your whisper
When You bend down to me.
A transfusion at the doctors?
Well that’s not really strange
For Jesus meets us anywhere
We’re never out of range.

We Have Plundered Creation.

I stand here amazed at the beauty
Of all the things that I see
The mountains, the sea, and the valleys
All spread around before me.

The birds and all other creations
Were put here for us to enjoy
But we didn’t take care of these blessings
We plundered and began to destroy.

So what is the result of this plunder?
What punishment do we deserve?
We punish ourselves, for all nature
Can no longer our lives preserve.

What have we left for our children?
What will their future be?
Can we snatch any life from the jaws of death
To reverse the damage we see?

We are caretakers of God’s Creation
Our shame is obvious now
But it’s never too late to wipe clean the slate
Or at least show our children how.

What can one person do? I hear you ask
How about one plus one?
If we all do our bit it will make a lot
A big task, but let’s get it done.

Cry Of The Matriarch

I wonder why gloom sits around in my room
Why sun just casts shadows so it feels like a tomb
Why the noises outside remind me I am alone
In a house that once heard voices in a family home.

When children fly away to start busy new lives
The Matriarch is left and her usefulness dives
Her age is increasing; her confidence crushed
No one to talk to who isn’t too rushed.

So then begins the old cry’ Am I there yet?’
Lord why don’t you call me, I’m tired of the wait
Not another day, I been down here too long
It’s time to enter Heaven and I’ll sing a different song.’

'Lord my room is too small, I can’t pack the family in
They all want to see me; I don’t know where to begin
I’m glad I’m in Heaven, but I need some more space
My family is growing at such a fast pace.!'

From This Day On.

From this day on, my heart will love You, Father
Now on this day Oh God forgive my sin
I hold my arms out to receive Your love, Lord
And welcome cleansing from the dross within.

When I ignored the promises You made to me
And doubted in my heart they could come true
For me, who was Your undeserving child, Lord
I spurned Your love and all that You might do.

So now I claim Your faithful Word and promises
Forgive me, Lord, I will renew my path
Each step I take will lead me nearer Glory
Just to return Your Love is all I ask.

Dear Holy Spirit I am so sorry I hurt You
Denied Your power and that‘s the sin of pride
Brushed off Your love, a love that took You to the cross
O hold me, shield me, in Your heart I’ll hide.

Do This In Remembrance Of Me.

Take of the bread and the wine at Communion
Give me your heart as you’re thinking of Me
Think of My sacrifice; and future reunion
Will you do this in remembrance of Me?

Will you remember? Will you remember?
The day that I died just to free you from sin
I returned to My Father and My home in Glory
But I am waiting for you to come in.

Kneel now before Me; I know you adore Me
Confess your sin, for I’m ready to cleanse
Communion is broken without your confession
Will you do this in remembrance, My friend?

We two are one now; the world is before you
Spread the good news that a Saviour is here
Souls are repining where love is declining
Will you remind them Salvation is near?

It is you that I care for; you whom I died for
I will not leave you, that is My decree
Pray to Me, stay near to Me, till you reach glory
Will you do this in remembrance of Me?

Not Just A Number.

If I say the words, ‘Four Thousand’ what would it mean to you?
A figure that went down in history
But four thousand is the number of living souls that died
And those were everyone a Cherokee.

Driven out by white men from their peaceful mountain homes
When the Government had heard that there was gold
And all of that was started by a little Cherokee boy
Who sold a nugget to a trader wanting gold.

The word spread and the Government soon joined with greedy men
To drive the Cherokee from their homes
And day by day and night by night the wagons rolled along
While sick and murdered Indians fell, in droves.

The trail of tears is so well named for the tears were shed by all;
Mothers, Fathers, children as they fell
The long, long trail took several months and scattered Cherokee graves
Left four thousand souls on a foreign hill.

This history has been written by good and faithful men
Read round the world wherever people roam
My heart will well remember the bleeding trailing scar
Of those shallow graves scattered far from home.

So when you hear the words ‘Four thousand’ no matter where you are
Remember that Legislation was the key
That signed the papers, that sent the army, that gathered greedy men
That ended the life of four thousand Cherokee.

I Was Walking One Day

I was walking one day down the road in the rain
And I heard a soft whisper again, and again
‘My child do you love me as I love you
I gave you My life, will you do the same too?’

The rain still fell softly and mixed with my tears
Like the ones I had shed right down through the years
I had struggled and strived to do things by myself
But all I attained was a place on a shelf.

I had heard that same whisper right down through the years
My Lord, ever seeking, but I kept all my fears
I feared to step forward and take hold of His hand
Yet Jesus never left me for my life He had planned.

Once again came the whisper, ‘Child do you love me?’
‘Remember it was for you that I hung on that tree’?
My tears now stinging and mixed with the rain
As I whispered back ‘I’m all Yours, once again.’

My Saviour is still with me for He never left
Every promise He made is a promise He kept
I love Him more, every day that I live
And that is a promise I know I can give.

Cause of Death?

Cause of death unknown, I read
Funeral to be held in bed
No need for fancy coffin here
Just say your peace the Minister’s near.

“She had a very happy life
She was a good and busy wife
Her children raised and educated
She said she would like to be cremated”.

To save expense was her idea
To cremate her body right in here
The fire we start will have to burn
So hot she cannot then return

The fire brigade must not be called
Until the fire has taken hold
Her earthly goods must be destroyed
If we fight over them she’ll be annoyed.

I don’t know what will happen next
Her funeral service she has text
A little sermon she added too
I really knew that’s what she’d do.

She always wanted the last word
But since it’s in text nobody heard
I know she's happy and carefree now
A campervan in Heaven? They’d never allow!

What?

What am I listening for, why am I searching?
Looking for distraction without any purpose
I don’t want to think or make up a goal
Yet here is no meaning to my life as a whole.

I don’t want to stay here, I don’t want to go
I can’t imagine why I feel this thing so
Is it a grief or depression I am in?
From my understanding I am living in sin.

I should not feel hurt when I’m snubbed or I’m shunned
Perhaps in a Convent I might make a good Nun
My skin is too thin and my brain is too thick
What is my future when I’m as thick as a brick?

Tired of repeated..’You should’…and..’You should’
Well I just don’t want to even if I could
I’m tired of people saying ‘Your negative talk
Will bring into being bad things in your walk.

So I wish I could crawl right under a rock
While you folk analyse me and talk a lot of rot
I know all my bad points outweigh all the good
But that means I am human and ‘you should…’you should’….

No, Don't Walk Away

No, don’t walk away
Do you see Me standing here?
Waiting to hold you close
And calm every fear.

No, don’t walk away
I never would leave you
Each step that you take.
I would be there too.

No, don’t walk away
Don’t you want me to help you?
You cannot hide from Me
I can always see you.

So please turn around
A wrong path you are taking
I don’t want you to fall, so
Come! I am still waiting.

Spiders?

If for sixty years you do all for love
And that great love should go
With what then do I fill my life?
What should I do; where go?

Well-meaning folk line up to say
‘You should’ ‘you should…’’ You should…’
I won’t become an old man’s slave
Though I could…I could…I could…

I want to be downright selfish
And do things just for me
I enjoy my own company
Though it’s lonely, I agree.

So I’ll just sit here and ponder
In the kitchen of my home
And realise with gratitude
I do not need to roam.

I could sit here with my duster
And keep the cobwebs at bay
As the spiders have moved in you see
When they thought I’d gone away.

So now it’s either them or me
Who can enjoy this home
So I’ll make their lives a misery
And hope that they will roam.

While I sit here with my free time
And duster unfurled
I’ll get those rotten spiders for
Invading my world.

A boy looks into the life of a youthful Jesus.

I can sit up in bed and talk with You
I can stay up all night if You want me to
It’s so quiet now we won’t be disturbed
And we can both whisper so as not to be heard.

Will You tell me about life when You were a boy
Were You always good? Did You have any toys?
I wonder if You ever played in the dirt?
Or if Your Mother was worried that You might get hurt.

I wish I had seen You as a baby , Lord
And as a boy Who sometimes got bored
Did You cut yourself with Joseph’s tools
When You were learning the carpenter’s rules?

You were the eldest with younger kin
Were You in charge when Your parents weren’t in?
Did Your young brothers squabble and fight?
Did You have sisters and have to kiss them goodnight?

Were all Your lessons taken at school
Within the Temple where the scribes had to rule?
I have so many questions that I want to ask
Was Your life like mine with many small tasks?

When will I know and when will I hear
All about You that I hold so dear?
I don’t want to wait till I get up to heaven
Please tell me now, the clock says it’s seven!

If I Didn’t Know.

If I didn’t know You loved me
If I didn’t know You cared
I would sit out on the porch here
And wish I were a bird.

I know Your eye is on the Sparrow
They are small and homely things
You care for all creation
And not just those with wings.

But I wish I were a bird Lord
To take off to the sky
I’d fly up nearer heaven
So You could keep an eye

On everything I’m doing
And help me in good time
When things are going well, Lord
Or I’m neck deep in some slime.

For I get into trouble
Much more than little birds
I’d like Your urgent rescue
Before I’m even hurt.

You hear my desperate whisper
“O God, please help me now”
And You will send the answer
And it’s just in time somehow.

For You are kind and patient
And I’m not perfect yet
But I will still keep trying
From morn till sun is set.

Another Love Letter To The Master.

I Want To Know You

I want to know You, and see Your face
I have known Your love, Lord throughout this long race
I know You are faithful, kind and true
How can I ever stop loving You.

I want to know You, as I look in Your eyes
You always are caring, yet You love to surprise
Some days are long Lord, and healing won’t come
But don’t change Your plans, Lord, I want this race run.

Not my will, Father, but only thine
My asking for changes is wasting our time
Work to be done and lost souls to win
Telling them You died, Lord, to free them from sin.

All You have done Lord, at Calvary
You thought it was worth it to save even me
I just want to know You and to stay by Your side
Bonded in love with nothing to hide.

I hid from You, Lord for many a day
But others prayed I’d surrender some way
Now I am Yours You know I won’t hide
Walking together in love and great pride.

Why Don’t I Mind My Own Business?

Why don’t I mind my own business?
I keep overstepping the mark
There is such a fine line between caring
And touching that ‘Privacy’ mark

I just want to end people’s troubles
And make their life better, you see
But I hit a brick wall or cold shoulder
Or the ‘Privacy’ wall just hits me.

I’ve always been a fighter for justice
And would take on a war (two or three)
No matter the odds, shake the peas out of pods
If I’m raging don’t try to stop me.

I have all the best of intentions
And I have too much love to spare
Those I want to protect or fight for
They really don’t even care.

So I’ll keep to my side of the fence line
And a little aloof from now on
Unless I am asked to perform a task
I’ll mind my own business from now on.
